The AF 180mm f/2.8 is a true IF (internal focusing) design so its length remains constant regardless of the focus setting and the front element does not rotate.

The AF speed is very fast - also an advantage of the internal focusing mechanism. With internal focusing to remain a constant length it is easy to handhold. It has a built-in collapsible hood, and the A/M switch makes changes between autofocus and manual focus very easy. Extra low dispersion glass gives high resolution and contrast.
